The company was established in 1982 by Franz Hess as HESS BERATUNGEN. It now belongs to Hess FRANCE S.A., which is 100% family-owned. The umbrella organisation includes six firms in France, Rumania and Switzerland with a total of 500 employees.

The Swiss branch, HESS BERATUNGEN was renamed HELVETING in 2005 and currently employs more than 100 people.
